Tuesday Tip ✅
Goals of Pediatric Spinal Ultrasound:
1. Identify the level of the conus:
The hypoechoic distal spinal cord tapers to form the conus. The tip is normally positioned between the level of L2-L3.
2. Assess the presence of nerve root motion:
Recording a cine loop and using m-mode during respiration can demonstrate normal cauda equina motion.
3. Assess the spinal cord and skin surface for the presence of a mass or sinus tract:
There are several spinal dysraphisms that can occur with or without a mass that may or not be covered by the skin.
