Obtaining RMSKS Credential

Hoping to earn the RMSKS credential? Earning this credential will help you to gain more opportunities in your field and earn you more credibility amongst your colleagues.


πŸͺ‘ To sit for the MSKS examination and earn the RMSKS credential, you must meet the following requirements of the MSKS prerequisite:


β€’ Must hold an active credential or license in a health related field. 

β€’ Must have performed a minimum of 150 musculoskeletal ultrasound studies within the preceding 36 months of application.

β€’ Applicants must pass the Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) and the MSKS exam within 5 years of each other to obtain credential. *Physics exams passed prior to the launch of the SPI exam will not be accepted.*

The following is required documentation that must be collected prior to application submission:


β€’ Copy of current, valid license or active credential in a health related field.

β€’ Completed online third-party attestation form indicating that you have performed a minimum of 150 musculoskeletal ultrasound studies within the preceding 36 months of application. To download the third-party attestation form, visit ARDMS.org/MSKS-Attestation.

β€’ Applicants must maintain a patient log indicating that he/she has performed a minimum of 150 musculoskeletal ultrasound studies within the preceding 36 months of application. None of the 150 case log requirements can be labeled as therapeutic (injection or aspiration). This log does not need to be submitted with the application but may be requested as part of a random audit. 

β€’ Copy of a non-expired government-issued photo identification (ID) with signature; the first and last names on the ID must exactly match the first and last names in your ARDMS/APCA record.


Application information: 


β€’ The MSKS exam is a windowed exam. The next application window is from January 26, 2021-April 6, 2021.

πŸ’° The Examination cost is $250 

⏰ The MSKS exam is 3 hours long and contains 170 multiple choice questions


☝️ Although CMEs are not required to apply for the MSKS examination, ARDMS highly recommends and encourages applicants to earn a minimum of 30 musculoskeletal ultrasound specific CMEs to assist with preparing to take the MSKS examination.
